Flying South for the winter

We are currently sitting in the Anchorage airport, waiting for our flight to Honolulu- the first leg of our journey to New Zealand.  While watching the activity out on the runway we saw one of these go by, crazy.

We are leaving Alaska on the 30th and will land in Christchurch on Nov 1st, so Halloween is MIA.

After spending a couple days in Christchurch, we will take a bus up to Nelson- on the North end of the South Island. There is a bike shop there where we can, hopefully, outfit ourselves for bike touring. From there we will probably head South along the West coast. Who knows where the road will take us...keep in mind we are on an island.

We plan to be in NZ about three months. At some point we have to get to the North Island because we eventually fly out of Auckland. On the way home we stop in Bali for a couple weeks, meet up with friends in Thailand for a wedding, and finally stop for a visit in Maui before heading to Alaska about Iditarod time.

This is my new bike! We bought it from a friend who came from NZ and now lives in Alaska. It is waiting for us near Nelson.

Before leaving home we spent several weeks trying to be responsible adults; dealing with the realities of being homeowners and running a fishing business. Glad that's over for a while.

Tyrell built a deck this summer, and then had to replace the door because it was leaking. We now have sliding glass though, so that's cool.

I grew a large family of scobys over the summer, and drank a lot of delicious kombucha. I managed to give them all away before taking off, although I got many strange looks over my "aliens".
